Foodie Frocks

Some women love to be in the kitchen, while others don't feel like they belong.
But with Thanksgiving being the hungriest holiday of all, there is always a little cooking to be done.
Whether you're heating up a prepared brie cheese or trimming and stuffing your very own bird, you can look fabulous while you do it.

Anthropologie's endless options of flirty aprons will at least make you feel like you know what you are doing.

Or if you are having Thanksgiving catered this year, don't be ashamed of throwing this on to spruce up your outfit or just make you feel like you have been slaving in the kitchen all day ;)

Holiday Cheer and Holiday Gear

The holiday spirit is finally hitting me.
It took me a while to accept the early Christmas Decor lining the streets and the festive music blaring through the radio...
but now that Thanksgiving is in sight, I am ready to spread the holiday cheer and need to start looking for some holiday gear.
One of the biggest shopping days of the year is on the horizon and whether you are looking for yourself or others, there will be deals you cannot resist.
Here are a few ideas to get your wheels turning.

Christmas Cheer

Every year I notice that Christmas is starting earlier and earlier?
Or is time just flying by much faster than before?
Either way... it is not yet Thanksgiving,
but it is beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
All the shop windows in North Hills are decked out
we even have a few festive ladies in the store to help spread the cheer.

For this month's Third Thursday, November 18th, North Hills is hosting a Sip and Stroll. Sip warm drinks while you stroll the streets and take in all the holiday decorations.
There will also be a silent auction and donation locations to support the Camp Firefly Organization that provides terminally-ill children and their families to have fun at an all expense paid summer camp.

Ideas Fur Winter

I do love the sequined looks that have been lining our racks and sprucing up the dark grays and blacks of winter-wear.
But lately, I have been drooling over fur and feathers...

Fur hats, fur jackets, fur vests, fur boots and fur skirts
yesss please!
I love the warm neutrals and texture, of course.
I even am thinking the sequin feather combo could make for a fun, festive look.

New Autumn Palette

New arrivals keep coming at Fleur and last weeks boasted a fresh fall palette.
I took a minute to think about what is inspiring the designers.
Dragon fruit, grey skies influence the flirty ruffles of Hunter Dixon's tops.
And bright pomegranates and robin's egg blues keep Paul and Joe Sister pieces exciting and cheery.

I can't wait to see what comes in next!

Thanksgiving Threads

I love Thanksgiving, although it's 2 weeks away, I cannot stop thinking about it.
Planning has begun for the yummy menu, table settings and what to wear.
I like feeling festive on Thanksgiving, and that usually means wearing something warm, cozy and rustic.
I really like the photo spread they had in the November Real Simple Magazine.
Fresh faces, warm knits, plaids and jewel tones.

and I just have to add the Ralph Lauren Ricky Tartan Sunglasses, because they have been peaking out at me from the pages of every magazine I pick up and I am starting to love them....

so festive yet hip.

Inspire Me

Today I am looking for inspiration.
Inspiration for a hobby, for a delicious dinner idea, or just for figuring out what I am going to put on in the morning.
I think I need to just take some time to explore the world and create a wall of items that spark my interest like Harvey Faircloth's.

I am endlessly awed by their inspiration, so I decided to learn a little bit more.
This is what I found on Linkdin:

"HARVEY FAIRCLOTH is dedicated to creating spirited, off-kilter classics for modern women. The fearless creators are friends from the American west: Katie Hatch, Abby Clawson Low and Mara Papa whose forebearers were pioneers, rodeo queens, barrel-racers and goldminers, making them tough and unafraid of hard work and high temperatures. You could say that their impossibly chic and razor-sharp clothing has a certain plucky, pioneering spirit. They were also the kinds of girls who spent lots of time with their noses in books, learning classical languages and minding their manners. This is what you might call a beautiful contradiction. And this is really the idea behind HARVEY FAIRCLOTH"

How cool do they sound...
What are you inspired by?

M.K. & A.

I have always had a soft spot for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen... is that weird?

I think it started in their days of Full House and grew exponentially as they paraded around the tabloids as fashion icons.
I was never sure if their clothing lines would ever make it,
but apparently they have.
Elizabeth & James Spring 2011 collection has gained positive press and I am loving the looks, as well.
Inspired by French femininity, the flowing boho-chic dresses and effortless shorts and silky top combos are inspiring and freeing.
And I am also really digging the hats.

MK & A have also designed a sunglasses line so we can all look as mysterious and smart as they do walking around the city with a latte.

Mixing It Up

When the seasons change there is always such a mix of styles.
Some folks decide to still don summer duds,
and others bust out their full on winter gear.
When it is 30 degrees in the morning there is no question but to throw on your boots, sweater, scarf (and facemask.)
But then there are mornings like this one, where I walk out the door to a gloriously, sunny, 60 degree day.
It is hard to know what to wear.
Especially, when I still have summer dresses hanging in my closet... next to my winter threads.
Mix it up with and pair that summer dress with a winter sweater or coat and maybe even a pair of boots -if there is a chill- and you're good to go.

i heart daylight savings

daylight savings is the greatest!
especially in the fall.

although it gets dark before I leave work...
I love being able to start the day earlier.
Whether that means hitting the yoga studio or getting a head start on the work day, early morning sunlight is a plus!

With the recent opening of a lululemon athletica showroom in Raleigh, NC, I can now start the morning in style.

Vintage Inspiration

Fashion has always looked at Vintage styles as inspiring and classic, but now Vintage Couture is more popular than ever.
Instead of taking a trip to the thrifter and having to dig through all of the 80's sweaters and GAP turtle necks to find a perfect gem, the designer Karen Zambos is bringing Vintage Couture to boutique racks.
Yesterday Karen Zambos Vintage Collection arrived at Fleur and we are excited to host the Vintage Vogue Trunk Show for the next few weeks.

"It's no wonder that from her humble beginnings of remodeling vintage clothing, Karen Zambos, through trial and error, has created a stunning collection that varies from fun-to-wear hippie-inspired pieces to classy and elegant designs."

Come on into Fleur and get inspired by Vintage!

Autumn

Delicious autumn!
My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.
~George Eliot

i love autumn
and I love cozy layered fall looks from Anthropologie's interactive online catalog.
From the flower shop to the bookstore and an afternoon stroll...
just of a few of the looks I want.

A Festive Time of Year

A week ago my mom emailed me asking for addresses to send Christmas Party invites. With a slight eye roll, I ignored.
Yesterday she called, "it is November and the ball is going to start rolling"
YIKES she is right!
Before we know it, it will be Thanksgiving and our Christmas Party invitations will be cluttering the fridge.
So take a gander at the first installment of Fleur's Festive Frocks

November Tune

I can't believe it is November already
Where does the time go?
Before you know it, we will be gearing up for the holidays
and searching for the perfect festive frocks.
But until then, I am going to just soak up November,
take it day by day and wrap up in something comfortable and warm.

I will leave you with a little November tune, by one of my favorites (and NC locals) The Avett Brothers.
